10 Spooky, Silly & Strange Books for Your Kid’s Halloween Bookshelf

Looking for Halloween books for kids that are spooky, silly, strange, or just plain fun? You’ve come to the right bookshelf!

Halloween reading doesn’t always have to mean ghosts, goblins, and things that go bump in the night. Sometimes it means witches, mysterious creatures, interactive adventures, adorable bats, and yes... chickens traveling through time.

Because apparently Halloween books can contain just about anything, and I fully support that!

In this episode of The Brave Bookshelf with Kim Bartosch, I’m sharing 10 fun and wonderfully unusual children’s books that families can enjoy during Halloween and throughout the spooky season.

Some are creepy. Some are silly. Some are sweet. And others are just delightfully strange.

Whether you’re looking for a not-too-scary bedtime story, a fun read-aloud, an interactive adventure, or something completely unexpected, there’s a little something for every young reader.

👻 A Little Something for Every Reader

One of my favorite things about putting together book lists is finding stories that celebrate all kinds of readers.

Some kids love a good scare. Others prefer something funny or quirky. Some want a mystery, while others enjoy books filled with imagination and surprises.

And some just want time-traveling chickens. Who am I to argue?

The wonderful thing about Halloween reading is that there’s room for all of it. You don’t have to love scary stories to enjoy spooky season.

So grab your favorite blanket, maybe a piece of Halloween candy (or three), and join me as we explore 10 books that deserve a spot on your family’s bookshelf.

💬 Let’s talk books!

What are your family’s favorite Halloween or not-so-spooky reads? Do your kids prefer creepy stories, funny adventures, or something wonderfully weird?

I’d love to hear your recommendations in the comments!

Happy reading, and have a wonderfully spooky season!
